People & Personalities

As a producer you will have to work with many types of people with varying personalities. A good producer knows each of these personality types and understands how to work with different people and how to motivate people with different personalities. There are two very excellent tools known as DiSC Styles and Jung Typology. Both give a good breakdown and description of different personality types.

DiSC Style measures percentages of four separate categories. Those categories are Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness. With DiSC Styles your personality is a combination of these four basic types. Dominance is described as hurried or impatient, direct, aggressive, and makes decisions quickly. Influence is described as open, talkative, inattentive, appears disorganized, and makes spontaneous decisions. Steadiness is often easy-going, listens carefully, quiet, uncomfortable with change, and is not easily excited. And finally Conscientiousness is seen as timid, quiet, detail oriented, and cautious.

Jung typology is very different however. This method categorizes differences into four opposite pairs, or dichotomies, with a resulting 16 possible personality types. In the first dichotomy, the two sides are Extravert and Introvert. Extraverts recharge and get their energy from spending time with people, while introverts recharge and get their energy from spending time alone. The second dichotomy is Sensing and Intuition. Individuals who prefer sensing are more likely to trust information that is in the in front of them. They need facts. They don’t often trust gut feelings. Those who lean towards intuition however, often tend to trust in gut feelings and hunches. The third dichotomy is Thinking and Feeling. Thinking is often viewed as more logic and reason based while feeling is regarded as making decisions more on emotion than logic. The final dichotomy is Judging and Perception. People who prefer judging like organization and order where as those who prefer perception are more adaptable and open ended.
